If burning small cotton results in pink flames, gray smoke, and no plastic residue, the fabric is made entirely of cotton. In contrast, when cotton blends are burned, they will smell like plastic and clump. The stronger the plastic smell, the higher the polyethylene ratio.

Almost the entire surface of a fabric made of 100 percent cotton has a high water permeability rate. However, if the material is a blend of cotton and polypropylene, the water permeability is slow, and the degree of spreading is not uniform.
